Esrock's Lectures

Professor Esrock's lectures were extremely informational. I enjoyed our time with him. He opened our eyes to the ample amount of job opportunities out there for college graduates and also taught us the most effective ways to get these jobs. We discussed everything from internship, resumes and interview tips to personal examples of students he had taught. It was extremely inspirational. He showed us many websites that can help you steer yourself in the right direction for whatever career you decide. Professor Esrock emphasized the importance of internship and job experience during college. Most of the time your internship open the doors for many career opportunities that you may not have otherwise. I think that his lectures were one of the most important lectures I have ever participated in just for the simple fact that many college graduates have no idea of what to do once they have graduated. I am excited to use the knowledge he has shared with us!

Lifespan

Elderly are at an extreme disadvantage when it come to technology period. Most elderly don't want the internet because they don't know how to use it or feel that they have gone all this time without it so why start now. The elderly are unfamiliar with the technologies of today's society, but there is hope. Many websites offer assistance for the elderly to become more acquainted with the Internet. The more knowledgeable you are about any subject the more interested one is. I feel like the more the elderly learn and absorb about the internet, the more open minded they are about using the internet for obtaining information, paying bills etc. Once they learn about how it can make their life easier they will learn to love it.

Interpersonal Communication/Children

Children seem to be the experts in technology today. It is funny to observe a child explain to their parents how to use a computer or an iPod. This shows just how fast paced technology is. Children on the Internet has its advantages, but like anything else in life it also has its disadvantages. Children today can find anything on the internet. Children are at an extreme advantage with the Internet. Their capabilities are endless. They can check the weather, do their homework, and look up useful information whenever their little heart desires! Children and the internet do scare me. For instance, chat rooms; there is no guarantee that you are talking to who you believe you may be talking to. There is no way for parents to monitor who their child is speaking to. Another disadvantage is porn. It is everywhere on the internet and even if you do have child controls on your computer, its inevitable that they will come across some sort of porn.
